Entrance Incident

The sign post at the front entrance, (holding the no solicitation sign) was knocked down last night. The sign post has been repaired and additional concrete will be poured to better secure it. The camera was damaged, but a replacement will be up shortly. In the meantime there is still one camera in operation. It is suspected that young males in a 2000-2009 White Chevrolet Extended Cab P/U Truck with a black bug guard across the hood are responsible for pushing the sign over.

Coyote Sighting

Last night at about 1:30 a.m., a pair of coyote were spotted running down the middle of 342nd st. Please be aware that they are still prowling our neighbohood.

Prayer Request Follow UP

Earlier this year a Request For Prayers was posted on this blog on behalf of Highland Meadows neighbors Chad and Julie Jordison and their families.

As many of you may already know, Julie was critically ill with HELLP Syndrome. We are pleased to report that Julie has experienced a miraculous recovery and is now home, and she and new born daughter Breanna Joy are doing fine.

Julie "would like to sincerely thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers through this time of hardship for me and my family"

Please continue to pray that Julie's organs continue to heal, that her blood pressure can be controlled, and that her energy level increases.

Neighborhood Gathering

Due to the overwhelming support that they received from the neighborhood during her hospital stay, Chad and Julie have decided to plan a Highland Meadows neighborhood barbecue. They have chosen the date of Saturday, Sept. 18th from 1-4 p.m. at the Trac A ballfield. Chad and Julie will be providing hot dogs, chips, pop, and cake. They have also rented a large 25 ft. blow up slide for the kids (or adults). They will be posting signs a week in advance. They are hoping for great weather and a large turnout. MARK YOUR CALENDARS !

COYOTE SIGHTINGS

There have been numerous sightings of 1 or more coyotes today in Highland Meadows, throughout the neighborhood. Unfortunately, they are preying on our small pets. Please keep an eye out for your cats and dogs. Make neighbors aware when you have spotted a coyote in your area. Parents, please warn your children not to approach these wild animals. Below is a link for further information on coyotes and their behavior.

RACCOON WASTE - HEALTH ALERT

A recent article in the Bellingham Herald has called to our attention that raccoon droppings pose a serious health hazard. Since Highland Meadows is known to have a raccoon population, this posting is appropriate.

In summary, many raccoons have roundworms in their intestines which produce millions of eggs, which are passed on in the raccoon's feces. Those hardy eggs can take hold inside people and cause fatal brain infections. The bottom line is is to make your home less tempting to raccoons. Keep a tight lid on garbage and your sandbox. Don't leave pet food and water outside at night. Clean up seed debris from your bird feeders. Plug gaps or holes to keep raccoons out. Below is a link to the original article. Please read it.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers for a full recovery. The baby is doing good at this time. Also, please keep their families in your prayers as well.

Thank you so much !

HEATHER HIGHLANDS SECURITY

The following alert was issued 6-2-2010 on the Heather Highlands Block Watch Alert system and is published here for information.

Large Items Stolen in surrounding neighborhoods

It appears criminals are getting a bit more bold. In surrounding neighborhoods there have been reports of many large items being stolen recently. An examples list of such items is below:
- 4 ft. wooden sculpture of a dog, very heavy
- 100 gallon propane tank FULL weighing in at 1,000 pounds
- Iron fireplace chiminea, also quite heavy

The criminals must have had a lift gate truck to have pulled this off. Please be on the lookout for out of place vehicles. Call 911 if you witness suspicious activity.

Bear Sighting

A bear was sighted on Lake Holm Road yesterday afternoon. It was at the first turn as you start down the windy hill. How wonderful that we live in an area that allows nature to be so close to our door step. However, let us all take some some basic precautions and stay alert.

Suspicious Activity - Solicitation

This afternoon about 4:30 p.m., a woman was canvassing the neighborhood for TriState Roofing and Seattle's Best Home Improvements. She was observed standing for several minutes looking at houses and taking notes, then having conversations on her cell phone. She was approached and asked if she needed any help, but said she was soliciting business for roofs and siding. She was told that this was a "no solicitation" neighborhood and that there was a sign stating that at the front entrance. She said she did not come through the front entrance. When asked what entrance she came through, she became defensive. She did not drive here, but was dropped off and picked up in a white van. Later a check of the neighborhood revealed that very few flyers had been left.

This may have been a legitimate solicitation effort. But it is strongly urged that we all are extra vigilant for the next couple of weeks. Lock your car doors and do not leave valuables in view in your vehicles overnight. Pick up your mail. Keep an eye out in the neighborhood and report any suspicious activity (call 911) immediately, then report to your Block Watch person.

Block Alert - Car Break In

As a follow up to the previous prowler alert, there was in fact a break in, in cluster 8 across the street from cluster 6. The home owner reported that on Friday night between 7 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m., his driver side window on his car was broken into. Nothing was taken as he suspects his motion lights came on and scared off the person. He did call the sheriff's dept. but no officer was dispatched.
Block Watch - Prowler

Early the morning of Jan. 30 around 2:00 a.m., a resident in cluster 6 was heading to bed when he looked out the window and saw someone across the street in a neighbors's yard. He watched for a moment and saw this person cross through one neighbors's yard and head up the driveway of another neighbor. The resident ran to the door and called out and the prowler took off running. A 911 call was made as the resident drove the neighborhood looking for cars that did not belong. The police responded within 20 minutes. Apparently a car was parked on the corner of 133rd Ave SE and SE 342nd st. Keep an eye out for vehicles parked in that area that do not belong. Take licence plate numbers and call 911.

As there have been no subsequent reports of a break in, it seems the incident was limited to prowling. There was a car parked over on 133rd Ave SE and 339th st.. It is an off white Toyota License Plate #652WGM and was reported to the police.

If anyone did experience a vehicle break in or vandalism, please contact your block watch person.

Block Watch - Car Break In

1/9/10 - 3:40 a.m. Saturday morning, Highland Meadows had another car break in. A window was smashed to get to a purse that was visible. The police were called and the credit cards
companies were notified. The credit cards were being used in the Olympia area.

Residents need to be more diligent in locking their cars/trucks/RV's and not having any valuables in plain view. We also need to be aware of cars or persons not familiar to the area and report them to the police. Get as much detailed information on the vehicle or persons in question. It seems that some questionable vehicles are parking at the end of SE 342nd St.
